Auld Lang Syne

The moon is half full, looking so much like a watermelon slice. It is clear and crisp out after a day of clouds.

My love and I just celebrated the beginning of the New Year with folks in Labrador – we didn’t want to wait till midnight here. He has already tucked into bed – needs to be up early for church services. And I have headed back to my office to finish up some paperwork and patterns needed for next week.

This past year was a good one. We’ve grown closer, I feel, and have expanded our family through no effort on our part.

Sebastian and Scarlett are the newest stars and their parents are learning the joys and heartaches, as well as the headaches, of being responsible for another human. They are also abundantly showing the overwhelming love that comes with parenthood. And it humbles me.

As we close out 2011 and peer into 2012, I hold you all close, beseech blessings for/on you, and wish you all the best that the year has to offer.

A busy time – well, not as busy as when the kids come home for the holidays, but busy enough! Gingerbread cookies made, pumpkin cooked and pies made, decorations up (a nice little amount) and a few items wrapped and waiting… Plus some major knitting and crocheting for a soon-to-be-here installation.

A big thank you to all you came by my booth at Harmony Lodge and Clifton Cultural Arts Center or shopped the Weavers Guild Fall Sale – the last three weekends have been very good for my inventory of naturally dyed clothing and scarves.

I now get a breather from sales concerns and can focus on family! We’ll be gathering for Thanksgiving dinner with our sons and their wives …. and our two new grandchildren! I’m all prepared to do some major cuddling.

It’s the holiday art sale season and I’ve been busy. Last weekend did a show in Clifton, this weekend is the Weavers Guild Fall Sale and next weekend is the Studio Collection’s Holiday Sale at Harmony Lodge. Would love to see you there! I’ve got some great silk scarves with lovely natural dyed designs on them!

Back from NY

The Eastern Great Lakes Fiber Conference went extremely well. Held at the Chautauqua Institute in NY, we enjoyed the lovely autumn coloring, the mist on the lake in the mornings and the cool crisp air morphing into warm sunny days.

About 70 very fun fiber folks attended sharing their fiber passions and craziness. I felt in good company! My students were the absolute best in both the twining session as well as the mudcloth class. I did get some pictures of some of their incredible work, but haven’t had a chance to upload them yet.

It is always a delight to meet new folks and pure joy to reconnect with old-time friends – and both happened in NY.

I was able to add to the pleasure of the trip with a stop in Cleveland on the way home, visiting with my eldest and youngest sons and a lovely blooming young mother-to-be. Grandchild #2 is due in a couple weeks – can’t wait!

End of a good thing

This evening we took down the yarn bombing on Central Parkway. All the while we worked people stopped their cars and/or shouted out how much they liked what we had done and couldn’t we leave it up a bit longer?! One downtown denizen pleaded with us to leave one of the planter wraps at the corner where he ‘works’. Lots of smiles still. Makes it all worthwhile.

Just about all ready for the trip to EGLFC in NY. Will pack the car tomorrow. It’s amazing how much ‘stuff’ I just have to have for teaching when I drive vs how much actually goes with me when I fly! These folks are getting the better deal, for sure! We’ll be playing with soft sculpture twining and mudcloth – great combination.

OOOOH! Just realized this is my 300th post! Hurray for me!

It’s October already!

I’m finding it hard to believe how much time has elapsed since my last post here! About the only thing that remains of the summer are the bug bites that still itch.

Lots has happened including a new grandson! Sebastian John is already two weeks old and growing! Such a cutie, but then I’m his grandmother – I’m supposed to say things like that.

I’ve been involved for the past 6 months with a yarn bombing movement in the Cincinnati area – check out BombShells of Cincinnati to see our handiwork! (We are also on Face Book if you want to friend us.) What was originally intended as a one project adventure now seems to be turning into a small art company! Keep tabs on us to see what we are up to next.

More immediate is some teaching this coming weekend in NY for the Eastern Great Lakes Fiber Conference. And then on to getting some work accomplished to be ready for three – count ‘em – THREE! back-to-back fiber sales in November.

Add in some local basketry and book making classes and I’ll be keeping busy for the next couple months! Hopefully that won’t keep me away from this blog to much. Hoping to be more consistent with my presence.

I. HATE. MOSQUITOES.

I don’t usually feel so strongly negative about something, but those buggers have pushed me over the limit.

I have bites on soft squishy parts as well as hard tight parts and parts that don’t normally get abused. And they itched all night long, regardless of the fact that I slathered on anti-itch stuff which has been working normally. I really don’t want to be the main blood donor for millions of new little mozzies.

I’m thnking that this might be one thing God got wrong. Can’t think of a single good reason to have mosquitoes around. There would be justice, of sorts, if mozzies also got bit by something small and had to itch, too. Maybe I wouldn’t hate them so much.
